Firmware Recovery to Factory Default – New method for 4th Generation (4GEN) Phones

If a state arises where the phone will not boot properly, and it appears that the firmware may have been corrupted, it is possible to reload firmware back on the phone and return it to a factory default state. For phones without display, the POST (Power On Self Test) MODE function is achieved as per the following steps:

Press # key as you insert power into the WAN port, and release the # key after 5 seconds.

1. Connect phone's WAN port to PoE power and the phone’s LAN port to PC's network port
2. Open a TFTP server on the PC, place the file rootfs.jffs2 in the root directory of TFTP server. (First

you must obtain the correct rootfs.jffs2 file which is specific for each model from Cetis – sipsupport@cetis.com)
3. Power up the phone again, press and hold the # key
4. MWI Key Flashes rapidly to indicate POST mode
5. The phone is now in POST MODE and waiting for input command

  1. Press 1 to Factory Reset
  2. Press 2 to Restore the System by downloading rootfs.jffs2 firmware from the tftp server (You must make sure you have obtained the correct rootfs file for your specific firmware from Cetis via sipsupport@cetis.com)

6. When prompted for a server address enter the IP address of your server using the keypad and the *

key as the periods between octets and end with a #.
Example: 10 * 40 * 0 * 52 # will try to retrieve the rootfs.jffs2 from the tftp server at IP address 10.40.0.52
7. If the phone SUCCESSFULLY retrieved the rootfs.jffs2 firmware file and applied it, the LCD will

display on the screen:

LOAD OK
Update System...
After several minutes, it will change to display LOAD OK
UPDATE OK

After this process of restoring firmware, if you have a new default configuration with the new firmware (config.ini – you load that via SSH protocol - load config.ini file from ssh using command using the SSH command: "LoadConfig config.ini x.x.x.x" (x.x.x.x is tftp server IP) – It is not necessary unless you have new features that were added with the firmware.
